Wawaloam News and Updates

KINDERGARTEN HEDGEHOG VISIT

Finally, the day we have been waiting for happened this week! We have been talking about our visit with a real hedgehog for about a month! We were so lucky to have "Watson" the hedgehog make a very special trip to Wawaloam School to visit Kindergarten students!  Did any of your children
talk about seeing a hedgehog when they got home on Thursday?

A REMINDER THAT WAWALOAM ARTS NIGHT IS ON MONDAY, MAY 22
6:00-7:15 PM
HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE!

We have been working very closely with the Exeter and West Greenwich Public Library to see how many children we can get to come to the library over the summer! We came up with some special surprises for you to earn and hope you will visit at LEAST 4 times this summer! The theme for Summer Reading is:

Be on the lookout in your child's END OF THE YEAR report card envelope for their bookmark. Of course, the libraries will have a few extras on hand in case.

Next week all of our students in Grade 1 and in Grade 2 will be visiting Metcalf School as part of the transition process. Students will have a chance to tour the building and will get a feel for their new school.

BUBBLE DAY!!

Did you hear the good news? The graduating class of 2017 will have a chance to walk through the halls of Wawaloam and Metcalf before they graduate wearing their graduation gowns! Thank you so much to Sue Chandler, Principal of our High School for making this inspirational moment a reality for the youngest students in the district!

REMINDERS! No School on Friday- Professional Development Day and No School Monday- Memorial Day!

WHAT A FUN WEEK WE HAD!

Dear Wawaloam Community,

Thank you all for letting the teachers and support staff at Wawaloam School know how much they are appreciated this past week. Your kind gestures have made a big difference during Teacher Appreciation Week! Every day I am a witness to the devotion the teachers here have for their students, your children. I am humbled to lead this incredible group of educators!

If you don't have any plans on Saturday, consider coming to the EWG Lip Sync Show at 6:00 PM in the High School Auditorium. You will recognize many of the performers! In addition to many other teachers, administrators, and students- you will see Mrs. Millard, Mrs. Cash, Mrs. Murley, Mrs. Petrarca. Mrs. Lerner and I all included in the program line-up for this benefit event for Mr. Ron Rounds. Consider coming to support this fundraiser or purchase raffle tickets in any of the school offices.

May is a BUSY month! We have visits scheduled with the Zoomobile for Grade 1 and the transition visits to Metcalf School are scheduled for the end of the month. Thank you,  PTA for making these exciting events possible!

There are screenings for our incoming Kindergarten students scheduled on Fridays throughout the month. If you know of anyone who will turn 5 ON OR BEFORE September 1 who still needs to register for Kindergarten for the 2017-18 school year, please send them our way!

Did you know that Nurse's Week is next week? At Wawaloam School, we are SO fortunate to have Mrs. Larkin taking care of the health and wellness of our students. She is always ready to tend to the many needs that arise on a minute by minute basis. She is caring, compassionate and incredibly competent. Thank you, Nurse Larkin, you are amazing!
