Last Blog of the Year

Our school year has come to a close and we can not thank YOU, the families of our students enough, for your constant and unwavering support! The children have grown and learned so much through our collaborative efforts! We love your children as though they were our own and appreciate that you have shared them all with us this year!

Please carve out time for summer reading! The special book marks came home this week and Miss Diane and  Miss Shannon are waiting for all of you to come and visit!! This is so important! You will notice a big difference in their success in the classroom in the fall if reading and math practice are maintained throughout the rest of June, July and August.

Enjoy some pictures from this week and a short video of the Kindergarten Celebration!

One of our happy Bike Raffle Winners!!

You should have received your child's report card and the bookmark for the library and also a ticket to a Pawsox Game. We have a few extra  tickets in the office if you plan to go with other children so let us know if the dates on the ticket work for you (these games are in the next week or so...) You can stop by to pick them up next week if you need more.

Enjoy every minute of your summer vacation! Read, read, read!!! Keep a book with you at all times, maintain all of the hard work and learning from this school year.

We also want to make sure you take time to play outside, get lots of fresh air and exercise! We will be back before you know it so make every minute count. Put down the phones and the electronics and enjoy the time together with your family :)

Check  your email from the school throughout the summer for news and updates and I will also pass along any fun activities/ideas that I come across!

We will miss you so much Mrs. Civic! Thank you for always having kind words and a smile on your face. You are a role model to so many people for all of the countless examples of positive words and spreading joy and happiness. We love you!!

Bee happy!!!

Summer Reading, Kettle Pond and Events Scheduled for Monday

ONE MORE WEEK TO GO!

IT WAS A PLEASURE TO COLLABORATE WITH THE EXETER AND WEST GREENWICH LIBRARY TO MOTIVATE STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM!  HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT SUMMER READING FOR WAWALOAM STUDENTS:

Together, with the local libraries, we have created an incentive for summer reading for students. Next week a very important book mark will come home for you to bring with you when you visit the library. If you visit 3 times, students will receive a special SUPERHERO pencil to go along with the Superhero theme! If you visit 6 times KIKI's ICECREAM is donating a free kiddie cone of ice cream to all children who meet this criteria! Every time you go, they will give your card a hole punch! By the way, the activities they have arranged for summer reading are outstanding! Check out their web sites and make sure you add the library to your summer "to do" list!!

FIELD DAY HATS AND SUNBLOCK

Monday is a SUPER EXCITING day at Wawaloam School! We are having Field Day. Please make sure your children wear sneakers and a hat is a great idea. Applying sunscreen at home is highly recommended but should not come to school with your child for health and safety reasons. We really appreciate Mrs. Breene and Mrs. Guglielmo making all of these arrangements for us!!

PICTURES FROM KETTLE POND THIS WEEK

Grade 2 had a wonderful time at Kettle Pond exploring and learning together!

CONGRATULATIONS TO ELIJAH B.
He was our Grade 2 Bookmark Contest winner!! This competition was organized by the Washington County Coalition for Children and he received his bookmark mounted on a plaque and a copy of the book Feeling Groovy! His design was turned into a bookmark for all of our friends in Grade 2! Way to go Elijah!!

KINDERGARTEN JOURNAL REFLECTIONS:

These kindergarten writing samples tell you how important friendships are to our students! Thank you Mrs. Petrarca and Mrs. Civic for sharing these with me!!

GRADE 2 FRIENDS DURING MORNING ANNOUNCEMENTS

I have to say thank you to all of our friends in Grade 2 for helping me EVERY DAY with announcements! We loved all of the joy and happiness you spread in our school as we listened each day.

Are you missing anything at home? Let us know and we would be happy to check lost and found, we still have quite a few items collected and we would be so happy if they ended up in the hands of all of the owners.

Next week we will be having our end of the year bike raffle! We will be picking 2 names from ALL of the PBIS Bee Bucks tickets that we have given our during the entire school year! The excitement has arrived!!

Have a super weekend!

Hello June! Lots of information and reminders-

BLOG WEEK OF JUNE 5, 2015

NEWS

Grade 2 friends visited Metcalf this week, did you get any feedback from your children? What did they think? I popped into Mrs. Millar's class and asked them how it went and heard lots of positive comments and excitement! They are so ready for this transition!

FAMILY RESOURCE

This is a great resource for supporting an increase in physical fitness for your family or individually. I love that they are asking for a "healthy selfie" picture! Check it out!

THANK YOU PTA

A special thank you to our PTA for all of the amazing support this year, we really appreciate how much you do for our students. Welcome to Cathie Cool Rumsey in her hew role on the PTA board!

PRACTICE EVACUATION TODAY

We are winding down and preparing for our end to this fantastic year. Today we practiced our building evacuation to make sure we know what to do in the event of an emergency. Doing these always provides us with ideas for improvement. This was by far our quickest evacuation but we know we can do even better if we move 2X2. We always appreciate that Peter Pertraca, our school resource officer comes to help us at the crosswalk. Tell your children you know they did an awesome job today!

SUMMER READING

Next week on June 11 I am teaming up with the Exeter and West Greenwich Libraries to kick off the summer reading program. With the Superhero theme, it should be even more fun than usual!! Miss Shannon and Miss Diane are planning a skit of some sort and they were glad to learn that I have a bee costume available......so we will see what that means!! I do know that if your children save the bookmarks they will receive and visit the library 6 times that Kiki's Ice Cream is providing a coupon for a Free Cone to celebrate!! We are thrilled to have these community partnerships!

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCMENTS
