Week Ending September 29

Peacemakers on the Playground

Thank you to everyone who attended our Open House events over the past couple of weeks. We hope you enjoyed the special presentation put on by the teacher of your child, they worked so hard to prepare and are always so proud to share! We have such a great learning community!

This was the first week of the year for the Grade Level meetings. You would be very proud of your children for the Respectful, Responsible and Safe behavior they demonstrated! Kindergarten students met with Mrs. Curry and I to introduce the Second Step program, we reviewed expected and unexpected behavior and met "Puppy". Grade 1 students were reminded that they are the Role Models for our school being the oldest students and we talked about ways they could help show Kindergarten friends what is expected.

The Family Book Fair is this weekend! Don't forget to stop by the Scholastic Family Book Fair this Sunday, October 1st at Metcalf School from 1:00-3:00 PM. Thank you PTA for making this possible.

We are very excited about the upcoming Walk-a-thon next Wednesday, make sure your children come to school with sneakers and a water bottle please. This is such a fun event for our students! We can't wait!

An informational packet came home this week from Schoolstore.com---- no pressure-  We know a lot of items come home, this is another opportunity, like Boxtops or Stop and Shop Rewards to support our school.  We are just passing along the opportunity for you to participate if interested.

If you have any items at home that are collecting dust that we could use for recess or for our bee bucks prizes, we are happy to take these off of your hands! Think about jump-ropes, sand toys, chalk, etc. For bee buck prizes, the children love small, trinket type items like little cars, notebooks etc. Sometimes leftover party favors end up on our doorstep and we put these to excellent use!

The Exeter-West Greenwich Regional School District is counting on the attendance of as many students as possible children each day. Below, you will find an interesting fact and a link that will provide more statistics and resources regarding school attendance. We recognize that from time to time children are sick and look forward to working together, hand in hand, to ensure the greatest attendance possible for each child.
  • Almost 10,000 public schools across the United States - or 11 percent of the total - have chronic absence rates that affect 30 percent or more of their students. A new report by Attendance Works and the Everyone Graduates Center provides a national and state analysis of how many schools face these high levels of chronic absence, and shares Portraits of initiatives that show how chronic absence can be turned around, even when it reaches high levels in a school, district or particular student population. http://bit.ly/2xztw5O

We have some pretty incredible accomplishments happening out there in our EWG community! Please take the time to share these with us, we would love to highlight special activities that are taking place around and about our community! We would love the chance to share some uplifting and positive highlights about Wawaloam students, simply send the information to me via email. We also LOVE to show pictures of interesting places where children are READING- please share.
