We were so excited this week to bring the Hour of Code to all of our 1st Grade students! Thank you Mrs. Gagner and Mr. Taylor for making this vision a reality! Thank you to Grade 1 teachers for their flexibility and extending the Library Special to 60 minutes this week! The children were so excited when they walked into the library and saw all of the Chromebooks set up!

Setting up for Hour of Code

Computer coding is the universal language of the planet. People who know how to code will be able to communicate across countries and cultures, be innovative, and solve problems more efficiently, with no barriers to impede their success.
Learning programming at a young age helps your children solve everyday problems and get set up for a lifetime of opportunities.

Student Participants

This type of education helps kids to learn the basic inner workings of computers. Kids can feel successful at getting a computer to do what they tell it to do. This foundation can set kids up for a lifetime of successful use and management of the technology in their everyday lives.

Everyone completely engaged in this activity!

Children have creative and fluid minds that allow them to think in a more “out of the box” way. The nearly endless ways of coding and solving problems can inspire kids to grow. You can show your child that coding is a type of storytelling. There is a logical beginning, progression, and ending to the story and the program. These skills can set kids up for success in written and oral communications in school.

This was a very challenging activity and we were so proud of the students for their amazing PERSEVERANCE as they embraced the difficulties as we learned together! We hope that some grade 1 students went home and shared what they learned and maybe you even logged on at home!

If you have extended experience with Coding and have additional ideas that we could share with students, please let us know~
